Coffee at Camp
We like to start every morning with a cup or two (or three) of coffee. This is no different when we are camping. But… we have learned a lot about what works best over the years. Depending on the type of trip we are on, this can change. That said, Coletti coffee has products that meet all of our needs and has quickly become a part of every adventure that comes our way.
When we started camping, I ran to Walmart and bought a cheap percolator to meet our needs. It was fine, but not ideal. The final nail in the coffin was when one of our children, swinging on the handle of our table (which was a no-no), knocked it over and was burned on his arm by hot coffee. Fortunately, it wasn’t as bad as it could have been and it healed with no trace of the burn (Pro Tip: Make sure you have burn ointment in your First Aid). But, I believe that was the last trip that percolator made. I kinda even swore off percolators at that time… or so I thought.
Quickly after, Coletti reached out asking if I would be willing to try out their Boulder French Press. Having never used one I was a little intimidated, but figured, why not give it a try. I am so glad I did. Not only is the Coletti Boulder super high quality, it also provides a level of security that I was looking for after the aforementioned issue. The Boulder lid is TIGHT! So I can rest assured a tip isn’t going to result in a burn. The Boulder also has thick insulated sides to keep the coffee hot, but the sides relatively safe to touch. Better yet, it does all this while brewing great coffee. 10 cups even!
Shortly after using the French Press, we decided to try out a new product that Coletti released. The Nomads have been great for Solo trips and backpacking. They even come in handy on the occasional evening when a cup of coffee around the fire pit sounds nice. Often we avoid this as to not add to the clean up duties before tucking away in the tent and calling it a night. But the Nomads make brewing a single cup of coffee and the clean up afterward super easy.
So… remember when I said I thought I swore off percolators. Yea, me too! So… In the Spring of this year, Coletti released a new take on a Classic. Though I had my strong, personal feelings about percolators, I decided I’d take a chance on it. The Classic is an enameled Steel percolator with Stainless steel internals. The enamel makes it easy to clean but also seems to keep the outside a bit cooler. I have been very impressed with the quality of this unit and the way it lives up to the Coletti brand. Now, because of past experience we are very careful when using this. Our previously mentioned incident was over two years ago now and the kiddos know not to get near the hot coffee “pots”, but we still keep the percolator, press, or nomads out of reach or heavily guarded.
At this time, my favorite of these to use is easily the Boulder. It requires the least attention when brewing and we seem to have the most consistent results with it. That said, depending on the type of adventure, these all have their time to shine.
We have been very pleased with Coletti and encouraged by their story. We are thankful to have them along on our adventures and appreciate their commitment to quality and their willingness to stand behind the products they create. We have made it easy for you to check out the products that we are using. Use the buttons above or the links below to add Coletti to your gear.
